Reading through Purgatory again very slowly, it’s interesting to see how one of the key claims of the whole book, and especially in the first Terrace – is that acknowledging and accepting the limitations of our intellect and reason is fundamental to spiritual, and real, growth.
Once we can balance what we know and understand, with an appreciation of the mystery and the beyond – the soul and also intellectual being is amplified manyfold in their combined experience. In many ways – this lies at the very heart of the Renaissance. Arts & Sciences unified, Human Experience and the Transcendent Mysteries and Inspiration consciously combined and present at the same time.
