We keep reading in the “Age of Division” book and we’re discovering so many new things about the bigger context for the monasticism, the Franciscan and Dominican orders, and the “final drop” with Boniface VIII and his new decrees in 1302.
It sometimes feels like there should be some other label for the time period between 1050 and 1300.. as the new papacy-empire starts growing and changing so many things in Germany, France, Italy. And this period creates so many reactions afterwards, that start brewing in these 250 years. Something alluding the the re-emergence of the Roman Empire but in a cloaked form of the Lateran Palace.
