Feb 6th: The Elements of a New Renaissance, and Old Florence in the 11 hundreds.

Morning! Today we’ll look at our ongoing exchange with Prof. Fr. Barzaghi in Bologna, and the importance of recognizing the bigger shaping forces beyond humanity – something the early humanists likely made a mistake in dismissing, longer term.

We’ll also look at how Cacciaguida describes the “ancient”/old Florence from the early 11 hundreds, as a more peaceful, virtuous and happy culture – before the advent of enormous wealth and power in the rising merchant guilds, and moving it towards being a significant City-State power in Europe at the time. (Starts at 6:50.)

Enjoy!
